WiFi6 is a new wireless LAN standard protocol. In 2019, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers defined the name as 802.11ax. For easier recording and convenient publicity, the WiFi6 simplified version naming method was adopted. The previous 802.11n and 802.11ac were also renamed WiFi4 and WiFi5. Compared with the current common WiFi5 technology, WiFi6 has better performance in transmission rate, number of accesses, and energy consumption reduction.
The previous generation of 802.11ac WiFi 5 has a maximum transmission rate of 3.5Gbps. WiFi 6 has a maximum transmission rate of 9.6Gbps, which is nearly 3 times faster than WiFi 6. Of course, this rate is only a theoretical maximum. The transmission rate depends on the number of spatial data streams and the number of channels of the wireless signal.

WiFi 6 also introduces BSS Coloring, a mechanism that labels each device that accesses the network. At the same time, WiFi 6 adds corresponding labels to its data. The data is then transmitted with the corresponding address, so that it can be transmitted directly without confusion.
WiFi 6 devices that require WiFi Alliance authentication must use the WPA 3 security protocol for greater security.
WiFi 6 introduces TARget Wake Time (TWT) technology, which allows the device to actively schedule communication with the wireless router to reduce wireless network antenna usage and signal search time. This also means that the power consumption can be reduced to a certain extent and the device life can be improved.
WG236 is a low power Bluetooth BLE5.1 and Wi-Fi 802.11ax module. The main chip of the module integrates the hardware and software resources needed for complete Wi-Fi and Bluetooth applications. It can support AP and STA dual role connection and also support BLE low power Bluetooth connection. The MCU running at up to 240MHz and the built-in 512KB RAM enable the chip to support cloud connectivity.
WG236 has rich peripherals such as PWM, I2C, UART, SPI, and can download and burn programs directly via UART. Up to six 32-bit high-speed PWM outputs use the chip is ideal for high-quality LED control. Each 2 PWM can be configured as phase controlled differential mode to support motor and strip drive.
The WG236 supports a low-power sleep mode where the MCU can go to sleep up to microamp levels of sleep current. the deep sleep mode supported by the WG236 can run a 32-bit clock at several microamps of current and can be woken up by this clock or woken up by any GPIO.
