Why GPS Module get the positioning data after start up for a long time ?

Update:2017-03-28Views:278

GPS module has two parameters, cold start and hot start. If it is the first time for GPS module to power on,or when it power on after moving for over 1000km,the module need to calculate ephemeris data again, and it usually takes 1-5 minutes. Then it will store the ephemeris data inside of the module, and save data by the lithium battery inside of the module. This is called cold start, and it need longer time. When it power on in next time, because of the previous ephemeris data saved by lithium battery,it can position fastly, usually within 30 seconds. So it is called hot start. If the module power off over 10 hours, and lithium battery is discharging and kindling, then the restart is just as cold start.
